Detailed Description

In veterinary species, griseofulvin has been FDA-approved for use in dogs and cats to treat dermatophytic fungal infections of the skin, hair and claws, and to treat ringworm (caused by Trichophyton equinum and Microsporum gypseum) in horses. It has also been used in laboratory animals and ruminants for the same indications. The oral tablets, FDA-approved for dogs and cats, are no longer marketed in the US, but human dosage forms are available. Due to the availability of more effective and less toxic drugs, griseofulvin is infrequently recommended today for use in small animals, especially cats.
